Sayodhya Home offers services that include 24-hour availability of emergency shelter; counseling and support for victims. Once the victim reaches Sayodhya home, our efforts are focused in providing an environment that will help her recover from the traumatic effects of victimization and develop an understanding of herself and awareness of the dynamics of domestic violence, relationships, financial and workplace requirements through rehabilitation skill trainings and counseling. Every client has to undergo a counseling session and our multi-disciplinary team helps the women to decide her future course of action.
Sayodhya is a non-profit founded by women in 2010. Sayodhya established a transit refuge center for women and children escaping various abusive situations, who have no social support systems to rely on. Five years ago, Sayodhya was running from Private accommodation, but now we have a designated center. In 2014 GHMC allotted a Community Hall to Sayodhya as part of its night shelter programmes. Since it's establishment, Sayodhya has provided emergency shelter to over 3000 women and their children, and hostel accommodation for another 500 young girls
Sayodhya's USP lies in successfully utilising a community-based approach towards curbing GBV and empowering women—it has leveraged platform of women's collectives, locally known as self help groups (SHGs), promoted by the Indian government by selecting women leaders from these organisations and training them as community counselors. This group of community resource persons (CRPs), the backbone of Sayodhya, works for change at the grassroots level by running counseling centres in the slums.
